What is an (I)NDC?

Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) identify the post-2020 voluntary national climate targets, including mitigation and adaptation, which countries committed to and which will become a binding Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) when a country ratifies the Paris Agreement.

What is the purpose of the NDC Platform?

The (I)NDCs data collection will help development practitioners familiarize themselves with a range of country mitigation and adaptation priorities and needs in terms of sectoral engagement, capacity building, technology cooperation, and finance gaps. The data mainly encompass what the commitments of countries translate into for implementation.

What does the NDC Platform entail?

Based on a comprehensive mapping exercise, the World Bank Group has developed a useful set of tools that include a detailed adaptation/mitigation database, a content visualization tool, and summary country briefs.

The data analysis responds to specific information needs for the identification of opportunities or gaps in analytical studies and technical assistance to support countries’ implementation of planned policies and actions.

The collected data is presented in a uniform structure which enhances transparency of available information, as well as omissions, and supports countries to learn from each other and, thus, to increase ambition over time.

Please note that all data collected in this database comes strictly from the (I)NDCs only; all implementation cost estimates are self-reported in the (I)NDCs. No analysis or interpretation of the information submitted by the countries has been undertaken.
